How to enlarge an image of a plan in an old magazine.
This is a generalization, as your soft ware and hard ware (scanner) will most likely be different.
Keep in mind my fellow modelers, 50% of my sells are all over the world, not just in the USA.
Lay the picture of the plan that you wish to enlarge on your scanner, make several trial scans until your image is as straight as humanly possible. Now increase your scan resolution between 600 dpi to 1,200 dpi. This increases your sharpness when you enlarge the plans. Start your scan and carefully go take a break. You scanner may take 5 minutes to do this and just one tiny bump will cause your scanner to distort the image. That reminds me when my kitten jumped up on my warm scanner to nap, Whao!!!!, What a blurry wave in that image.
Now save the file to your desk top. For simplicity, create a new folder on your desk top and drag your scan into the folder.
Open your folder and you are now ready to have some fun using your Futuristic tools.
Open your newly created file and start to have some fun. Suggestion, every 15 minutes or after every large alteration, be sure to save your work as "save as". I like to save as using #1 ( example: drake #1) I have had files saved as many as 75 times this way. Always delete much older "save as" files as you feel comfortable doing. You seldom need to go back 5 files to correct a mistake, but you may need to open a saved as file to make a copy of a rib as I did in the Drakes wing.
One of the first things you will need to do is to alter the image size to the correct (canvas size). You can measure the wing length and adjust you canvas size to match closely. Be sure to "save as". Now lower the dpi down to 200 and again "save as".
A higher dpi is not needed and a lower dpi will cause the printed lines to looked jagged like a hack saw blade.
A TIFF format is best, but you may personally prefer another format depending on your experience and needs.
Having spread this knowledge on the internet, you need to be aware that scam artist use similar methods to sell plans on Ebay and other sites. Listing images such as this is a DECEPTION. You only have an image of a plan, not a REAL plan as you can see on my pages.
The difference is the same as any fake item whether it be a watch of hand bag, it is QUALITY. And this will be a growing problem that as long as some despicable greedy SOB can con an unsuspecting person out their money. And absolutely NO, these web sites will not stop these con artist as long as there is a buck to be made. And get your money back? You must be joking!
An talking about scams, this one has taken me, some SOBs list drawings as plans. Nothing could be further from the truth.
Always DEMAND to see a clear picture of the item for sale, or get burnt like I did. Accept NO EXCUSES such as my scanner is broken or I don't have a digital camera.
250 HIGHLY DETAILED PLANS
What a load of BS!
When you see auctions for crap like this, be scared, be very scared. These are CAD drawings that where done in a class by students and have been saved to a disc by some enterprising dumb ass. I have had such plans emailed to me to ask what my opinion is of them. They are home work! You are being suckered into buying some students home work! Think about it?
Now if you still feel the need to buy such a disc, take a hammer and hit ones hand until you no longer feel the desire to purchase such crap. Now take 2 aspirins and go take up golf!
This auction is for 250 HIGHLY DETAILED PLANS FOR RADIO CONTROLLED AIRPLANES on a CD.
Highly detailed My Ass!
"Where's the Beef"
Huge model aircraft plan library scale sport ducted fan
This huge set of plans contains well over 3000. There are free flight, scale, R/C, gs, electric, rubber, sport, gliders, ducted fan, jets, trip planes, bi planes. Comes wiht a simulator to learn to fly the planes. Basla gudes, More than you can imagine.
Great spelling A-hole, let me guess?
Your just not old enough to drive yet?
Im including soem CAD software to make enlarging easy and a free adobe reader for easy browsing.
This is too large for a CD so it comes on a DVD. If your computer has a dvd player, you can view and print these plans. Some are PDF other are GIF and Jpeg.

Now look inspector. This is the instrument panel from my Berkeley Navion plans. You can planely see the real difference in quality of work between my plans and the CRAP these disgusting con men on Ebay are hawking. With my plans, you have nothing to be scared of! My plans are so crisp and clean, that you can see the shadow of a tiny red pin in the scan!
Ya know, I would greatly appreciate if your batty ex-wife would stay out of my listings!

With out a doubt, some times emails simply disappear into cyber space. Some files are blocked by Spam blockers, some files are returned to me as too big, and maybe I just forget to mail them. Maybe Pay Pal does not notify me. It does not matter to me what the reason is for you not getting them just as long as you let me know! It cost me to nothing send email again.
I can only depend on you to let me know. Do not be like one poor soul and wait 3 weeks! Contact me right away. I am often online every day unless my home page says other wise. OK? And for some reason I can not email them to you, I will burn them to a disc and mail them at my own expense or refund your money. Once I worked for over an 2 hours changing formats and mailing the plans directly to his printers just to keep from having to refund his money. Boy, was he happy! And so was I. They printed out the plans and burned them to a disc for him. Now that is great customer service all around, don't you agree? Consider this, I mailed plans to the fellow builder over 1,500 miles away and he had printed copies made the same afternoon! Simple amazing what we can do the new millennium. The future is here today and should be happy to use it. Our for fathers studied and worked hard to make this all happen, to them, I salute their sweat and toil, and offer them my humble "thanks".

Subject: Printing
HI,
I’m sorry to bother you whit some questions again. I called a print studio to day, so now I wonder what you normally pay for printing/plotting the files.
Well you see the print studio I was in contact whit, wanted to have about 100 US dollars for each of the files. (I hope he was drunk, or he want stay in business for long…)
For that amount of money I could put you on a plane to Norway, paid you one day salary to draw them once more.
He must have been dreaming……
So if you were going to print and ship them to Norway, what would I have had to pay you???
This is just so I have an idea of what to pay here.
And at the bottom, THANK YOU for great plane plans.
Very very pleased Fokker DR1 builder:

No bother. The local shops here charge 25 cents a square foot, which is 75 cents a running foot for a 36" wide plan, which I thought was a rip off till I heard your story! WOW, $400 for one plan? Let me do some math for you.
The files for the Fokker DR 1 are 2 sheets 36" x 83" and 2 sheets 36" x 66" . The total length is 298". Divide that by 12 = 24.83 feet of plan x 3 = 74.49 square feet x .25 = $18.62 I hope this helps you. Thanks, Willie
or
24.83' x .75 per running foot = $18.62
Hmmm, I wonder if I should pack my bags. D'oh!
HA-HA,
Yes, I’m still laugh about that offer (…to be ripped of).
But do you know what I want to ask you now?
Is it true that you give away the plans of the drake II fore free?
If that still is correct, are you willing to e-mail them to me?
Ha-ha, it’s still funny.
Best regards
Audun Borgen

On several occasions, the file would simple not open or print.
One day I spent hours just changing file formats and sending them directly to him & his commercial printers. Nothing worked! The file would only print part way.

The customer was very satisfied with my efforts and suspected that it had to be the lines as he could not receive pictures from his daughter either.
One can only assume that the file was as corrupted as a politician when they received it, as I checked with 8 others who had received that file and not one of them had any problem printing it out!
CONCLUSION; I secretly burned the plans to a disc and mailed it to him at my cost!
Is that not a Herculean effort on my half?
Lets count my money, $5 sale divided by 2 hours work minus disc and shipping =
Some time good files just go bad along the way. Here is a perfect example;

(.TIF file extension, pronounced Tif) TIFF is the format of choice for archiving important images. TIFF is THE leading commercial and professional image standard. TIFF is the most universal and most widely supported format across all platforms, Mac, Windows, Unix.
It is not necessary to say much about TIF. It works, it's important, it's great, it's practical, it's the standard universal format for high quality images, it simply does the best job the best way. Give TIF very major consideration, both for photos and documents, especially for archiving anything where quality is important.
| How do I open an attached file? |
|
|
To open an attached file just click on it but make sure your virus software is enabled.
Attachments are the number one transmitters of computer viruses so it's important to be careful before you open them.
For example, read News Online on the 'I love you' virus and how it damaged over a million computers worldwide within days of being released.
Remember!
Do not open an attachment to an e-mail when you are not sure who has sent it to you. Like me ;-)
It could be a serious virus that could cause damage to your computer. TIFF files can NOT do this as they are only a picture.
In general, opening an e-mail is safe and can't harm your computer. But, attachments can have dangerous programs on them so only open attachments when you know who has sent them and why.
Step-by-step
- Make sure that your virus software is enabled and that it is able to screen e-mail messages for viruses.
- To open an attachment simply select it.
- You may be prompted to either open or save the file.
- If you want to save the file, choose a folder and select save.
- If you cannot open a file you can still save it to open later. Send a mail to the sender asking which program you need to open it.
- When you try and open the file, you may be given a checkbox with the option to 'Always open this type of file with this program'. If you click the box, it won't ask you every time you open this type of file.
File endings
Different files need different programs to open them, and you can often work this out by looking at the file ending. For example:
- .txt is a text file.
- .doc is a word document.
- .bmp .gif .jpg .tif are all image files.
- .wav files are audio files.
- .pdf files are for viewing printable documents.
| What is an attachment? |
|
|
An attachment is a file which is attached to the e-mail you are sending. The paper clip on the right of the message.
Your e-mail is made up of words but attachments are great because they can be other files like photos or sounds.
- Select File > Save As.
- Select a folder in the dialog box.
- Type a name for the new file.
- Click Save.
Education is power. I hope this helps you some.
Ya, I know, it's as clear as mud.
Good luck, Uncle Willie | |
